Have you ever wondered where other children go to school or where they may live? Not everyone in the world looks and dresses like you, has the same skin color as you, goes to the same schools as you, or lives in the same kinds of houses, but that's perfectly okay! Although they may not look the same as you on the outside, inside they all have the same heart. We all laugh, cry, and joke the same, even if it is in a different language. Open this book and explore the beautiful pictures! You will learn a lot, too!
Whoever You Are is a beautiful picture book written for children about other children who look different and live different lives, but inside are very similar. The author addresses the many physical differences and personalities children may share, and housing and living conditions. She goes on to explain despite the many differences, we all share a similar heart.
Although I chose this book for use in a social studies lesson, it is also a great book to read when introducing multiculturalism to young students. The preferable age range for this book is 2-6 years old.
"Every day all over the world, children are laughing and crying, playing and learning, eating and sleeping. They may not look the same. They may not speak the same language. Their lives may be quite different. But inside, they are all alike."
